Prof. Sukanta Kumar Nayak is working as Professor in Department of Biotechnology, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. He did his post graduation in Microbiology from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar and completed his Ph. D degree from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Prof. Nayak, a JSPS fellow successfully completed his post doctoral fellowship from Nihon University, Japan. Prof. Nayak has nearly 30 years of research and development and 12 years of Teaching experience and been associated with 10 projects and handled 04 research projects as Principal Investigator.
His thrust area of research is fish & shellfish health management. He has published more than 50 research papers in several high impact peer reviewed national and international journals, 50 popular articles, 05 conference proceedings, 10 book chapters and edited 1 book. Till date 03 Ph. D scholars, 10 M. Phil students and 50 M. Sc students have completed their thesis /dissertation research work under his supervision. His major research accomplishments include 2 patents from Govt. of India and 03 commercialized Technologies. One of research contributions on Attenuated vaccine against Aeromonas hydrophila has been commercialized to Indian Immunologicals Limited Hyderabad, India. DOT ELISA Kit and Spot agglutination kit for fish and shellfish diseases are already marketed by Agarwal Trading Ltd., Raipur, India. A nano formulation named “Nanox: Anti-biofouling and wound healing” is on the process of commercialization.
Prof. Nayak is serving as a foreign external subject matter expert for evaluation of project proposal in the field of Aquaculture for countries like Croatia, Chile, France etc. He is an editorial board member of many national and international journals and a routine reviewer of several reputed high impacted scientific journals published by Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, OMICS, Bentham Science, BioMed Central, MDPI etc.
Prof. Nayak has figured in the Top 2% scientists of World in the category of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry by Stanford University, USA and Elsevier for Academic Year 2020, 2022 2023 & 2025. He has received many awards like DST Young Scientist from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, young researchers award for international research on epidemiology of zoonoses and training, Japan, Best Team Research Award of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Govt. of India, India, Best Research Scholar, ICAR-CIFA, Government of India, India.
