PERSONAL INFORMATION
Dr. Debasis Nayak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Odisha. He is actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic capacity-building in the interdisciplinary domains of wildlife biology, biodiversity conservation, and allied life sciences. As a faculty member, he contributes to postgraduate teaching, mentoring of students, and the development of research-oriented academic programmes within the university.
Dr. Debasis Nayak’s research at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCBU) is inherently interdisciplinary, integrating nanotechnology with biological sciences to address key challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and biodiversity conservation. His work in green nanotechnology focuses on the eco-friendly synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, particularly silver and iron oxide, using plant-derived biomaterials such as hibiscus and bark extracts, with an emphasis on developing biocompatible materials for biomedical applications. In the domain of targeted drug delivery, he designs and optimizes polymer-based carrier systems using chitosan and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) for encapsulating bioactive compounds including vitamins (C and E) and antibiotics like clindamycin, aiming to enhance therapeutic efficacy while minimizing adverse effects. His research in cancer biology explores the anticancer and antiproliferative potential of biosynthesized nanoparticles using established in vitro models such as MCF-7 (breast cancer) and HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma) cell lines. Additionally, he contributes to wildlife and biodiversity conservation through ecological and translational research in the Similipal landscape, focusing on biodiversity assessment and examining the interface between nanotechnology, sustainable agriculture, and ecosystem health. Complementing these areas, his work in ethnobiology emphasizes the documentation and scientific validation of traditional knowledge systems of tribal communities in Odisha, particularly in relation to edible insects, ethno-nutrition, and indigenous fermented products.
