Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, born on June 15, 1953, in Timmasamudram village of Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, is a distinguished academician and seasoned politician currently serving as the 27th Governor of Odisha and the Chancellor of Berhampur University. His journey from academia to high public office exemplifies a life dedicated to education, public service, and democratic values. Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati’s life reflects a steadfast commitment to education, democratic principles, and public service.
Dr. Kambhampati holds a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, M.Tech. and Ph.D. degree. He served as a faculty member at the Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years, contributing significantly to the field of engineering education before voluntarily retiring in 1993 to enter active politics.
In 1999, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Visakhapatnam-I constituency. He later served as a Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha, representing the Visakhapatnam constituency from 2014 to 2019. During his tenure, he focused on development initiatives in health, education, drinking water, and skill development, emphasizing transparency and public participation.
He received the Warrant of Appointment from the Hon’ble President of India, appointing him as the Governor of Odisha on December 24, 2024. He was formally sworn in as the Governor of Odisha by Shri Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa, on January 3, 2025, in the New Abhishek Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Odisha.
