This vision encompasses a commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring that advancements benefit society as a whole. The cornerstone of this vision is the relentless pursuit of knowledge. Research should aim to explore uncharted territories, from the intricacies of quantum mechanics to the frontiers of artificial intelligence. This involves not only deepening our understanding of existing phenomena but also discovering new principles that can transform our grasp of the universe. Researchers must be encouraged to take bold risks and ask big questions, knowing that failure is often a stepping stone to success

Research is one of the prime activities of DTE & SCERT, Odisha, Bhubaneswar. It promotes and coordinates Educational Research and Innovative Practices on various aspects of school education and teacher education at the state, district, sub-district and school levels.

Vision and Objectives

  • To initiate, promote and direct programs and activities designed for research
  • To bring about desirable changes in the educational system and practices through research and innovations.
  • To promote quality in research having relevance to the improvement of educational practices.
  • To provide and promote leadership in educational research in the state.

Programmes and Activities

Constitution and Function of SRAC

State Research Advisory Committee (SRAC) has been constituted at state level. The committee has been constituted vide Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha Notification No.1827 dated 08.02.2022. This Committee is the Apex Body for the planning and approving the research and innovative practices at the State level. In addition to promote educational research in its institutional networking, the SRAC has role to take measures to create and sustain interest in educational research amongst the practitioners at different levels of school education across the State of Odisha. The major functions of SRAC are;

  • To design the structure of District Research and Innovation Committee (DRIC) at the district level.
  • To develop the norms of expenditure to conduct different types of small scale and large scale / institutional research at the State, District, Block or School Level to contribute to feasible practices.
  • To disseminate research findings and promote their implementation across the state.
  • To promote activities in the development of leadership and expertise in research.
  • To exercise proper control over the conduct of research projects and utilization of research grants by the educational institutions under the umbrella of School and Mass Education 3 Department across the state.
  • To identify the priority / thrust areas in educational research from time-to-time with contemporary pedagogical dialogue/ issues.
  • To take the required steps to establish, sponsor, and coordinate research initiatives in the area of school education.
  • To take such other measures as may be required from time to time to help SCERT to meet the objectives of promoting and disseminating educational research.

Workshop and Orientation on Research and Innovation

DTE & SCERT conducted orientation and workshops for the DIET faculties. The Experts of the state and nation were invited and deliberated different aspects of research. The experts from RIEs were also invited to educate on tools and techniques of conducting research.
The objectives of the Orientation and Workshop were to build the capacity of the DIET faculties and other researchers on various aspects of research.
DTE & SCERT itself also has conducted capacity building programme on ‘fundamentals of educational research for teacher educators of DIET/ETEIs in 2023-2024 where teacher educators got opportunity to interact with eminent researchers/professors of state.

Promotion of Research at District and School Level

Fund is allocated for research to DIETs every year to promote institutional/ collaborative/ individual and small-scale action research. DIET faculties take up research studies based on district specific issues.

The DIETs were asked to submit their research proposals after getting approval from the DRIC. Teachers and CRCCS were given orientation on how to conduct research, interested teachers also do small scale action research focusing on the classroom practices. DIET faculties provided continuous support to teachers throughout their studies.
Finally, all the DIETs submitted their research reports.

Compilation of Research Works and Preparation of Abstract

After research projects were completed in the field, DIETs prepared their abstract of all the studies conducted for the year and shared with all educational stake holders of the district.

After completion of all the research work, the DIETs sent all the respots to TE & SCERT, BBSR. Then the department of Research and Innovation compiled all the abstracts off all the DIETs and compiled the whole data and consolidate for final presentation to the MOE, New Delhi.

Seminar and Presentation of Findings of Research in State and District Level

The DTE & SCERT organised a seminar for dissemination of research findings in the state level. The officers, researchers, DIET faculties and other stakeholders of education departments participated in the programmes. They gave their feedback and according to different steps were taken on policy making.
