The school will be organized at the beautiful campus of Institute of Physics (at Bhubaneswar) filled with green trees and singing birds all joining us in the joy of learning through their unique way.

Modern condensed matter physics is a multifaceted one which often needs physical concepts, mathematical expertise in different areas. In this school we try to give an overview of few topics of interest in present condensed matter research and basics of many-body physics. The topics that will be covered include 1) Hubbard model and its application, 2) Linear response theory and Green’s function method, 3) Thermalization of quantum many body system, 4) Introduction to Dirac-Majorana-Weyl fermions in condensed matter system, 5) Physics of disordered system, 6) Theory of topological insulators, 7) foundations of density functional theory and 8) quantum reservoir computing.

In the summer school the selected students will be having lessons from dynamic experts in the above fields comprising S. R. Hassan(IMSc, Chennai), Subhro Bhattacharjee (ICTS, Bengaluru), Navinder Singh (PRL, Ahmedabad), Sumilan Banerjee(IISc, Bengaluru), Arnab Sen (IACS, Kolkata), Adhip Agarwala(IITK, Kanpur), Priya Mahadevan(SNBNCBS, Kolkata) and Sanjib Ghosh(BAQIS).

Accommadation

The accommodation for the participants of TSACMP has been arranged at NABM prasar bharati Bhubaneswar. This is around 8km from the Bhubaneswar central railway station and around 11 km from the Bhubaneswar airport. The best way to reach NABM from airport is take a pre-paid taxi which will cost around INR 500. From the central railway station one may take Ola/Uber or Auto. The auto fare could vary in between INR 300 to 400 depending on your bargaining.

Registration

Once your application is accepted for participation in the school, an email with instructions on how to pay online will be sent. Upon successful online payment, send us the receipt or acknowledgement with transaction id to email cmpschool.2024@iopb.res.in. On receipt of this message, you will be notified for confirmation of registration.

Eligibility criteria

PhD scholars and young Post-doctoral scholars pursuing research in condensed matter physics are eligible to apply by email at cmpschool.2024@iopb.res.in with subject line “your name application for cmp school”. Motivated final year MSc physics students and interested scholars of other fields are also encouraged to apply. Please send your email application with the details of your name, affiliation, year of study (for example in which year of Phd ), field of research and one contact detail for reference letter. A recommendation letter will be asked by the organizing committee directly from the referees of the applicants. The registration fees for the school is INR 5000/-.

Colloquium-scope

The school will host two colloquium by renowned physicists, one colloquium in each week.

  • The first colloquium will be given by Prof. Pratap Raychaudhuri, TIFR, Mumbai
  • The second colloquium will be given by Prof. Sudhansu S. Mandal, IITKGP, Kharagpur

Important Information

We will share a google form where you will be asked to provide your arrival/departure detail. In case you are reaching Bhubaneswar railway station in between 10 pm to 6 am, let us know. Though Auto will be available round the clock, we will try to arrange private Autos which are known to us for this period. The fare has to be paid by the participants. During the school, vehicle will be arranged to carry the participants from the NABM to IOP to and fro. The distance between IOP and NABM is about 2.5 km. The google map for NABM is here. The participants are advised to bring their own umbrella and water bottle.
