The Fire Safety Awareness Week, organized across Paradip Port Authority (PPA) with the objective of strengthening awareness and preparedness for fire-related emergencies, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from various sections of society.
The week-long programme, which commenced on April 14, 2026, was organized by the Paradip Fire Department in collaboration with CISF, local organizations, educational institutions, industries, and community volunteers. The initiative aimed at educating residents, employees, businesses, and institutions on essential fire prevention and emergency response measures.
This year’s theme, “Safe School, Safe Hospital and Fire Safety Aware Society – Together for Fire Prevention”, highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and proactive measures in ensuring safety and minimizing fire hazards.
During the week, several awareness and engagement activities were conducted, including:
The valedictory function was held at Jayadev Sadan in the presence of Heads of Departments, senior officers, employees, CISF personnel, participants, and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Shri P. L. Haranadh, IRTS, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority, emphasized the importance of community participation in fire safety awareness. During the closing ceremony, Paradip Port Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining world-class safety standards with the vision of transforming Paradip into a premier “Fire-Safe Port.” The Chairman highlighted that Paradip Port remains the only port in India where the CISF Fire Wing is entrusted with complete fire safety operations.
Reiterating the Port’s commitment towards strengthening emergency preparedness, the Chairman stated that there would be no constraint in funding for procurement of advanced firefighting assets and modern safety equipment. He emphasized that investments in fire safety infrastructure are essential for safeguarding lives, port operations, and critical regional infrastructure.
The Chairman also announced several important safety and community welfare initiatives being undertaken by the Port. He informed that Pipenet Natural Gas (PNG) would be introduced to 586 residential quarters by June 5, World Environment Day, replacing LPG connections. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce fire risks due to the lower density of PNG while also providing cost savings to residents.
Further, he informed that a new Trauma Care Centre with a specialized Burn Unit, the first of its kind in the region, has been established at the Port Hospital to provide immediate medical support for fire-related injuries and emergencies.
He further stated that through continuous modernization of equipment, rigorous training of personnel, and extensive awareness programmes in schools, hospitals, industries, and residential areas, Paradip Port Authority is steadily emerging as a benchmark for industrial safety and emergency preparedness in the country.
Shri Sanat Kumar Patel, Commandant, CISF, delivered the welcome address, while Shri Manoj Chauhan, Dy.
